Eyelid Coloboma Repair

Eyelid coloboma is a condition where a part of the eyelid is missing. This can be seen as a gap or notch in the eyelid. It may be present at birth or happen later due to accidents, burns or surgery. The eyelid protects the eye from dryness and injury, so when part of it is missing, the eye becomes exposed and unsafe. Children with this condition may also develop vision problems if it is not treated on time. Repair surgery is important to protect the eye and improve appearance.

Causes
  • Present at birth
  • Accidents or trauma
  • After tumor surgery
  • Burns or scars
Symptoms
  • Visible gap in the eyelid
  • Eye cannot close completely
  • Irritation and dryness
  • Risk of vision problems in children
Treatment Options

Small defects can be closed with stitches. Larger ones need skin flaps or grafts from nearby areas. Surgery helps protect the eye, restore eyelid function and improve appearance. Early repair in children prevents vision loss.
