Keep your eyes healthy with everyday Eye Exercises

Eyes are the only reason for the beautiful colours in your life. They are the most vital and complex organ of your body and to maintain their health it is important to take utmost care of them. For centuries, people have promoted eye exercises as the best way to maintain the health of your eyes. These exercises can help with eyestrain and may help your eyes feel better.

Eye exercises probably won’t improve your vision, but they can help with eye comfort, especially if your eyes get irritated at work. A condition known as digital eye strain is common among people working at computers all day. This condition can cause dry eyes, eye strain, blurred vision, and headaches. Eye exercises can help you a lot to improve digital eye strain symptoms. The best eye hospitals of Gurgaon suggest a few exercises that can help you to keep your eyes healthy. These exercises if done daily can surely comfort your eyes and give you the best results. Here are some of the eye exercises with techniques to do them as suggested by the best eye specialists of Gurgaon:

1. Focus change:-

This is a very good exercise to improve your eye health. This exercise works by challenging your focus. It should be done from a seated position. The technique to do this exercise is given below:-

  • Hold your pointer finger a few inches away from your eye.
  • Focus on your finger.
  • Slowly move your finger away from your face, holding your focus.
  • Look away for a moment, into the distance.
  • Focus on your outstretched finger and slowly bring it back toward your eye.
  • Look away and focus on something in the distance.
  • Repeat three times.

2. Near and far focus:-

Near and far focus, as the name itself suggests is another focus exercise that gives relief to your eyes. Like Focus change exercise, it should be done from a seated position. The technique to do this exercise is given below:-

  • Hold your thumb about 10 inches from your face and focus on it for 15 seconds.
  • Find an object roughly 10 to 20 feet away, and focus on it for 15 seconds.
  • Return your focus to your thumb.
  • Repeat five times.

3. Figure eight:-

This is a great exercise to practice controlling the physical movement of your eyes. This exercise should also be done from a seated position as well. The technique to do this exercise is given below:-

  • Pick a point on the floor about 10 feet in front of you and focus on it.
  • Trace an imaginary figure eight with your eyes.
  • Keep tracing for 30 seconds, and then switch directions.

4. 20-20-20 rule:-

The 20-20-20 rule was designed by Californian optometrist Jeffrey Anshel as an easy reminder to take breaks and prevent eye strain which is a real problem for a lot of people. The rule says that for every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, a person should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This rule proves to be beneficial as human eyes are not supposed to be glued to a single object for extended periods. If you work at a computer all day, the 20-20-20 rule may help prevent digital eye strain. When following the rule, a person takes a 20-second break from looking at a screen every 20 minutes.

During the break, the person focuses on an object 20 feet away, which relaxes the eye muscles.
